A campaign started by a young person with a big vision.
I’m Harrison Foster, I’m 15 and I’m from Hull. I hold a First Aid at Work qualification, and I’m also an army cadet.
If I can take the initiative to gain a recognised first aid qualification at 15, imagine what could happen if every child had the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills at school.
This campaign is personal to me. My mum nearly died. My brother was at home at the time, but he didn’t have the skills to help her, and he wasn’t able to.
That was no fault of his own. He was never given the chance to learn what to do, and nobody had ever taught him. Being in the same house as someone who needs help is not the same as knowing how to give it, and he shouldn’t have been left in that position without the knowledge to act.
It made me realise how much of a difference a few practical skills could make, and how many young people might be in exactly the same situation as my brother. They aren’t lacking in care or courage. They simply haven’t been taught. That is something schools can change.
I don’t want any child to have to stand by, wanting to help but not knowing how, because they were never given the chance to learn. That is why I started this campaign.
I believe age should not be a barrier to making a difference. I want to use my own experience and knowledge to encourage positive change, raise awareness and help give other young people the confidence to save lives.
I received my training as part of being an army cadet. This campaign is independent, and isn’t run or endorsed by the Army Cadets or any other organisation.
I’m a young campaigner speaking up for first aid education. I’m not a qualified first aid instructor, and this website doesn’t replace training from a qualified provider.
